OAI Scotland Information Service
Open archives and access initiatives in Scotland

Welcome to OAISIS

OAISIS, the OAI Scotland Information Service, is a website offering information and advice on Open Archives Initiative (OAI) developments in Scotland.

The service was developed as part of the Harvesting Information Resource in Scotland Testbed (HaIRST) project.

The HaIRST project conducted research into the design, implementation and deployment of a pilot service for UK-wide access of autonomously created institutional resources in Scotland. Access is provided through an online catalogue of records describing the resources. These records are gathered, or harvested, by the HaIRST service from members' local catalogues, or metadata repositories.

The project investigated various tools to help institutions participate in the service.

HaIRST was one of several related projects helping to widen access to information.

The main ongoing project investigating related issues in Scotland is IRIScotland (Institutional Repository Infrastructure for Scotland).
